Celebrating Our Impact on Health
In December 2023, our team in Kibaale was honored to receive an award directly from the President of Uganda! The award acknowledged our significant contribution towards eradicating HIV/AIDS in Kibaale.
Kibaale, situated in the Rakai District, was once the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic, with reports in the 80s that 30% of the population was HIV positive. Today thanks to collaborative efforts of the Kibaale Community Centre and our supporters in Canada, only 6% of people in Rakai are HIV positive.
This achievement is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved, we are so thankful to the support that has made this possible! Everyone in Kibaale was very happy to be recognized for contributing to this positive change. However, 6% of the population is still a significant number! This emphasizes that there is still work to be done.
As we reflect on this progress, we are proud to share that our growing Health Centre has treated 22,000 patients this year—5,000 more than any previous year. This achievement highlights our commitment to providing excellent healthcare and the ongoing need for community support to sustain this vital work.
