Thrive Gardens: Empowering Kibaale Through Agriculture

A couple of years ago, we introduced Thrive Gardens, a holistic agriculture approach, to our community in Kibaale. Thrive Gardens provide education and resources in organic gardening, nutrition, natural medicine, and income generation. The program not only teaches essential skills but also supplies participants with the necessary materials to start sustainable gardens at home.

Having our own Thrive Garden at the Kibaale Community Centre has drastically improved the meals we cook for the students. Now, they enjoy a lot more vegetables in their diet, including spinach, eggplant, tomatoes, and kale. This contributes to better overall health and energy levels, which in turn supports their focus and learning capacity at school.

“The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.”

Psalm 85:12

Another significant achievement is that all our students in Kibaale now regularly drink herbal artemisia tea, known for preventing malaria. Malaria cases among our students dropped to only 61, a substantial improvement from last year’s 380 cases by this time.

This year, we significantly expanded the impact of Thrive Gardens in Kibaale, having trained a total of 219 individuals so far. We are eager to see the program continue making a tangible difference in reducing hunger, improving nutrition, and combating malaria with herbal artemisia tea.
